Actress Anne Hathaway was chosen to star as the new catwoman as a cast member of Batman sequel Dark Knight Rises. Hathaway's character is the bad-girl outlaw Salina Kyle, also known as catwoman. She joins a long line of actresses who have played catwoman in the Batman series since the character was created in 1940. Former catwomen include Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, and Lee Meriwether. The film, set to debut in 2012 will also star actor Tom Hardy as Bane, a chemically created brute from a 1990's version of the comic strip.
