American Honda Motor Co. Inc. is recalling 18,500 snowmobiles due to a potential oil leak that could cause fire. The company is recalling the snow shifting tool manufactured between April 2005 and November 2010 citing problems with the fuel tank. Honda has received complaints from consumers about leaking or dripping from the tank. The defect includes the o-ring manufactured underneath the fuel tank. Owners of the Japan built model will be contacted by the company. A replacement part is offered to customers with the affected models at Honda dealers. Data released by the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association, estimated Americans spent more than $413 million on snowmobiles in 2010 with more than 48,000 units sold.
