You are here: Technology Green Tech Converting non-recyclable Waste into Liquid Fuel
Dr. Karin Kaufman, President and CFO of Natural State Research Inc. ®, has dedicated her life to environmental awareness. A lifelong conservationist, she believes in the sustainable management of resources within the natural environment. “I decided to trust in nature as a valid system by developing a unique technology in the field of environmentally friendly chemical conversion,” Kaufman said.

This technology disposes of plastic waste by converting it into liquid fuel at the rate of one liter of NSR fuel per kilogram of plastic. Best of all, says Kaufman, it’s an environmentally friendly and sustainable practice. “I believe this process is unique, and has never been done before. It will alter the way plastic impacts our environment.” Kaufman’s experimental method, currently patent pending, involves a chemical process that deconstructs plastic’s long carbon chains. If they can be efficiently broken down into the shorter hydrocarbon chains found in oil, used plastics could be used to generate everything from heat to fuel to electricity.

Kaufman is an innovative entrepreneur today, but there were challenges along the way. At the beginning of her career, her gender was an issue in the predominantly male environmental science community. But she says the turning point came when a teacher suggested, “Be bold and beautiful!”

Years later, that advice still sticks in Kaufman’s mind. “It was good advice to pass through some insecurities that a lot of females have because they are not men, and not secure in the business world,” she explained. In applying this simple philosophy to her own life, Kaufman “dropped the fantasy of men being the successful businesspeople. I took the opportunity to realize that it’s okay to be who you are, and to be bold and beautiful about it.”

An emboldened Kaufman created Natural State Research Inc®, to engineer natural solutions to waste management and waste conversion. She has also branched out into other ventures; Kaufman is the president of the Same Seeds, Different Winds Foundation ®, a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring the positive relationship between science, religion and human endeavors. In addition, she runs Kitty B’ Dats, Inc. ®, a company dedicated to providing products for humans, based on cats’ physiology. Another company is Jug o’ Nut’s Inc, which produces nutritious foods, healthy drinks, sweets and teas. These companies are all managed by White Diamond Enterprises Inc., a financial management corporation that Kaufman also founded.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, Kaufman earned a B.S from Empire State College, and then an M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Summit University.  As a supporter of continuing education and enriching experiences, she offers her Charitable Foundation’s Cross Field Films, Ethnographic Films and The World Body School ®, which combines Eastern and Western thought and medicine into a cohesive and sustainable philosophy.
