Two of the largest smartphone hosts were engaged in a legal battle that has left the future of the Android phone in question. Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC in March for infringement of up to 20 patents “related to the iPhone's user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware.” An ITC judge has ruled in favor of Apple on two of the patents in question, which means that every single Android phone could be a patent violation.

This could result in a U.S. import ban against all of the company’s Android products and, according to intellectual property experts, it’s difficult to see how any Android device could not infringe upon them. The patents in question are on a “system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data” and a “real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data.”

HTC has since released a statement saying they are confident the ruling can be overturned and reiterated that it did not violate any of Apple’s patents. “We strongly believe we have alternate solutions in place for the issues raised by Apple. We look forward to resolving this case, so we can continue creating the most innovative mobile experiences for consumers.
