You are here: Health Diet & Fitness Keeping in Motion to Treat Arthritis
“People who suffer from arthritis should move,” is a health tip provided by medicalnewstoday.com, along with the advice that Arthritis sufferers should consult their doctors for a proper exercise routine. According to the Loyola Center for Fitness, low-impact aerobic exercises are safe for people with arthritis and have benefits in the area of pain control and improving the functioning of the body.
Low-impact aerobic exercises include aquatic movements, walking, riding a stationary bike, lap swimming, Yoga and Tai-Chi.  The Loyola University Health System also adds that interested arthritis sufferers should listen to their body, not exercise during arthritis flare-ups, start slowly and stretch before starting to do their exercises. As Loyola Fitness Center coordinator Valerie Walkowiak says, “If we don't keep our bodies healthy and active we can lose function as we age. We all want to be independent and to be able to care of ourselves, and by being proactive now we can make that a reality for a long time”.
