David Hillary isn't your typical accountant. He started his career as an automobile mechanic, reaching ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician status before shifting gears into the financial world and becoming an accountant. His firm, Hillary CPA Group, now serves individuals and businesses all over the globe.
“We currently have clients on every continent in the world,” Hillary said. “We have a number of manufacturing clients that we work with in the Pacific Rim area: South Korea, China, Japan. We also work with a number of people in the Middle East that are in oil-related businesses. And we work with a number of professional services businesses located all over Europe.” The company is also expanding its service into South America, specifically Brazil and Argentina.
“We primarily target the international market, taking care of companies that want to move into the United States or U.S. companies moving into the global market. We especially take care of preparing a large number of tax returns and tax issues for expatriates,” Hillary said. “We have just recently started our subsidiary called Intaxact, that's short for International Tax and Accounting, in order to increase our international presence through that vehicle.”
Hillary believes that the group's expertise in global matters makes them an ideal business partner for both U.S. companies working abroad and foreign companies doing business in the U.S. “I think what really separates us is our knowledge base; we stay on top of all of the international issues that are taking place throughout the world. We are very, very familiar with how tax laws and business structure apply in the U.S. for foreign companies or for U.S. companies doing foreign business,” he said.
Hillary CPA Group has managed to build a global clientele by taking advantage of the World Wide Web's capabilities. Hillary has merged accounting into SaaS (software as a service) to provide accounting services to anyone in the world with internet access, 24 hours a day. “Our motto is 'Virtual solutions for a virtual world,'” he explained. “We are a virtual accounting firm by and large. Most everything we do is online one way or another. We've teamed up with Thompson Reuters and they provide us with SaaS software, so that basically everything that we have is web-enabled and internet-based.”
In addition to using technology in innovative ways, the Hillary CPA Group also stands out by offering a broad range of different services. Their main business is assisting individuals and businesses with tax planning, tax return preparation, accounting, and payroll. They are highly adept at finding ways to reduce an individual's or a company's tax exposure. But they also offer payroll services, bookkeeping, business planning, employee benefits and even IT solutions. David’s certification as a CITP (Certified Information Technology Professional) exemplifies his dedication to accounting and technology. The group will research and install accounting-related software and train employees in its use. As Hillary explained, “We are a full-service accounting firm.” By bringing such varied services to the table, his company has carved a niche for itself as an excellent tax and accounting resource for a growing number of clients around the globe.
